Living in New England i can give you guys some insight on ice. It highly depends on how cold it is to determine how fast the water freezes and how thick. Usually it would be a thin layer of ice that you could punch threw if you went to the same hole but when you hit the water that cold it almost paralyzes you..and its hard to get back to that same spot and on top of that even if you do ..when you try to get out the ice will keep breaking around the hole
